Co-Founder & Principal
Andrew B. Hellinger is co-founder and a principal of Coral Gables-based UrbanX Group. He has more than 20 years of highly valued experience managing complex real estate developments and business matters. Mr. Hellinger is currently developing River Landing Shops & Residences on the Miami River west of downtown Miami. The $380 million mixed-use development under construction will have 2 million square feet of retail and residences on 8.14 acres in the heart of Miami’s Health District. Miami’s newest urban development will rise on the blooming Miami River district, anchored by downtown Miami to the east and the Health District to the west.
Over the years, Mr. Hellinger has served as an attorney and adviser to companies and lenders of public and private companies. His experience includes: real estate development, financing, real-estate transactions, condominium development, general corporate structuring, bankruptcy, receivership, and out-of-court restructurings, mergers and acquisitions, leveraged buy-outs and commercial litigation. His knowledge of business, real estate, finance and law, combined with his sophisticated problem-solving skills and aggressive approach to seizing opportunities give him a competitive advantage.
Prior to UrbanX, Mr. Hellinger was co-founder of Hellinger Penabad Co., a comprehensive real estate development and management firm. Before that, he was president of Leviev Boymelgreen Developers, an Israeli-based real estate partnership in Florida with $750 million in commercial and residential real property, including land. During his tenure at LBD, Mr. Hellinger led planning and construction of Marquis, a premier condominium project in Miami. Marquis required securing the agreement of the City of Miami, Miami Dade County and FFA to standardize and raise the building heights across the County to allow the Marquis in a record 10-month period. Mr. Hellinger also restructured and repositioned LBD’s remaining assets in anticipation of the economic downturn. His proactive approach and successful strategy allowed the company to sell at a profit its entire portfolio ahead of market forces. As a result of his efforts, Mr. Hellinger was awarded Top Dealmakers, Distressed Real Estate 2009 in South Florida.
