About the New York Multifamily Summit

Join us on November 1 in Manhattan to connect with other national and regional multifamily owners, investors and developers who are active across the Northeast and Tri-State area at the tenth annual RealInsight New York Multifamily Summit. This year’s conference has been carefully curated to address regional and national multifamily activity and opportunities, while connecting with the distinct flavors of the five boroughs and the surrounding region, including New Jersey, Connecticut, Westchester and Long Island.

This year’s topics are divided into two main content tracks, alongside a series of hands-on workshops and closed-door roundtables. The first track addresses new opportunities in investment, finance and development, while the second track focuses on improving what you’ve got through topics related building upgrades, tenant attraction & retention, technology and landlord-tenant issues.

Note: Only qualified multifamily owners, investors and developers are permitted to register for this event. Attendance by everyone else (e.g. service providers and vendors) is restricted. Inquire about remaining opportunities below.

Key Reasons to Participate

  • Event is super-regional, covering all of Northeast in terms of geography with a bias towards the Tri-State area
  • Closed-door, peer-to-peer roundtables that are off-the-record and free from press. These sessions bring together small groups of hand-picked decision makers for candid conversation around shared challenges and ideas. Roundtable groups include: multifamily CEOs and company leaders, operational leadership, rental developers, and condo developers.
  • Focused content sessions that address specific timely pain points and opportunities including AirBNB, DCHR, co-living, and more. Specifically, we are excited about a special live Q&A session with Common CEO, Brad Hargreaves, on the details of the co-living business model and how you may benefit from this new model.
  • One-to-one meeting app which allows you to see who specifically is attending and book 15-minutes of facetime with them at a specific meeting area on site. Given that the event is curated to include only senior decision makers from multifamily principals and investors, the opportunities to meet with operating or capital partners are numerous.
  • Event within an event: the conference this year includes the MultiFamily Innovation & Technology (MFIT) forum, which focuses in on recently developed initiatives that offer opportunities to create incremental revenue, minimize vacancy and/or reduce costs.

Track A – Head Winds:
Multifamily Finance, Investment & Capital Raising Today

Capital markets for multifamily and condo deals has changed dramatically since 2014. Interest rates are higher, deal terms are more conservative, and with–sky high land prices and ankle high cap rates–deals often simply don’t pencil out. The result has been a steep decline in equity fund formation and a spike in debt / credit fund creation. If everybody is going to the darkside, who’s left to invest at the top of the capital stack? This panel takes a no-holds-barred approach to evaluating capital sources, terms and deals today in both equity and debt, from a perspective of deploying capital as well as raising it.

Brandon Polakoff, Director, Avison Young

Come hear what is under discussion and how you can prepare for these changes to protect your multifamily business.

Track A – Emerging Trends in Design, Construction and Development

With ever increasing costs in both land acquisition and construction, apartment developers are being forced to be more creative than ever when designing a new project. Further, current uncertainty due to both politics and market timing mean that what may make sense on paper may prove foolhardy in the ground. What are some of the lessons learned from the end of the last cycle? What are smart ways to “value engineer” projects already underway without sacrificing the quality of the result? What are some of the recent design and construction innovations that are now tried and tested? And what does the future of residential development look like?

Ask Me Anything Q&A with Common CEO, Brad Hargreaves

But how does it work exactly? What properties and locations are a good fit? How does the marketing and leasing work? How does the revenue get divvied up? Join this special Q&A session and bring your burning questions, as we will sit down with Common CEO, Brad Hargreaves, to delve into the details of Co-Living.

Upgrades & Amenities:
High ROI Value Add Improvements Capital Projects

One of the most successful and sustainable business models in multifamily is to buy up existing underperforming properties from long-standing neglectful owners and upgrade them by turning over tenants and making improvements to the apartments and common areas. Today, the business model is seeing increased challenges ranging from a picked over marketplace to increased regulatory hurdles. These barriers are separating the skilled from the mediocre, weeding out casual players and ushering in a new era requiring higher degrees of knowledge and organization. What does it take to succeed in the value-add space today?
